Seit über 10.000 Jahren domestiziert der Mensch das Schaf zu einem ertragreichen Wolllieferanten. Dennoch führt jahrzehntelange Arbeit und Forschung an einer perfekten Wollfaser zu einem Abfallproblem. Aufgrund globalisierter Herstellungs- und Vermarktungsprozesse, ist deutsche Wolle zu einem ungenutzten Abfallprodukt geworden, das jährlich anfällt. Dabei wird ein weiteres Nebenerzeugnis, das wertvolle Wollfett, welches an den Wollfasern haftet, meistens übersehen. Ob der Substanz Wollfett ein gesundheitsförderndes Potential im Textil- und Produktdesign obliegt, stellt maßgeblich die Forschungsfrage der Abschlussarbeit dar. Die Prüfung, ob die Entwicklung eines industriell herstellbaren Fett-Faser-Verbunds aus deutscher Wolle, unter Einbehalt einer regionalen Lieferkette, möglich ist und inwiefern es Anwendungsmöglichkeiten von textilem Rohwollfett gibt, galt es dafür zu erforschen. Denn Wolle ist ein langlebiges, natürliches Produkt, dessen Nutzung durch innovative Anwendung gestärkt und im Kreislauf gehalten werden kann.

Humans have been domesticating sheep for over 10,000 years to produce high-yielding wool. Nevertheless, decades of work and research into the perfect wool fiber have led to a waste problem. Due to globalized production and marketing processes, German wool has become an unused waste product that is produced every year. Another by-product, the valuable wool grease that adheres to the wool fibers, is usually overlooked. Whether the substance wool grease has a health-promoting potential in textile and product design is the main research question of the thesis. The aim was to investigate whether it is possible to develop an industrially producible fat-fiber composite made from German wool, while retaining a regional supply chain, and to what extent there are possible applications for textile raw wool fat. After all, wool is a long-lasting, natural product whose use can be strengthened and kept in circulation through innovative applications.
